The G8 comes with a lot of power. You know that already if you've been reading up on the car. The V8 small block 6.0-liter is pulled by up to 362 horsepower. But, that's what you'd expect. The G8 is a performance car. Like all performance cars, it's worth taking it to your local dyno shop. They'll throw your G8 on the Dynojet and put those ponies through their paces. If something isn't working correctly inside your car, you won't be able to maximize its performance. Putting it on a Dynojet will allow a trained technician to test and tweak your G8 until it's purring perfectly.
Can You Trust The Pontiac Dealer?
The standard V8 is supposed to be capable of hitting 362 horsepower. But, words are cheap. Just because the dealer (or salesperson) tells you that the G8 you're buying can actually hit the numbers that Pontiac claims for the car doesn't mean anything. Frankly, when the salesperson is reassuring you that your G8 can hit the factory horsepower, rpm, torque values and ft. lbs., they probably believe it themselves. There's no reason for them to doubt it. But, it's unlikely the dealer ever tested the numbers. They're taking Pontiac's word for it. Even if you purchase a new G8, something may have happened to impact its performance levels. You should take your G8 to a good dyno tuner to know for certain.
If you talk with other G8 owners who have had their horse placed on the Dynojet, you'll discover that the cars' performance is typically not maximized from the factory. In other words, a stock G8 will probably not reach the numbers claimed by Pontiac. For example, if you're running your G8 on 87-octane gas and put the car on a Mustang Dyno, you might find that rear wheel horsepower climbs from 279 to 313 after the technician makes a few modifications. The change can be significant. Similarly, you might find the rear wheel torque climbs from 299 to 328.
Remember, you purchased your G8 to take advantage of its power (it looks great, too). It does no good to merely believe your car can do what Pontiac says it can. You need to have your G8 tested on the Dynojet. With a properly-tuned G8, you'll experience the power of the car as it was supposed to be experienced. The dyno can help fine-tune your car so it accelerates more quickly and does so with more force. It can help maximize your G8's efficiency. So, if you've recently purchased your G8 and you're excited to find out what it's capable of, think about throwing it on the Dynojet. That's the only way to know that your G8 can truly do what Pontiac claims.
