Up to 80 new jobs are to be create at Leyland Trucks.

The firm is set to increase production levels at its Croston Road assembly plant thanks to the robust truck market.

The move will raise the current annual output of the plant to 25,000 trucks a year.

The plant, which employs 1,300 people, is one of the most efficient truck factories in the world and incorporates an innovative robotic chassis paint facility and state-of-the-art Advanced Planning and Scheduling system, to produce DAF’s high-quality LF, CF and XF product line.

The vehicle range - with widely different market requirements - is delivered to customers in Europe, Australia, South Africa and North America.

Managing director Jim Sumner said: “Leyland’s success is due to the productivity of our excellent employees and the significant capital investments made by PACCAR in the facility, information technology systems and processes in recent years.”

PACCAR is a global technology leader in the design, manufacture and customer support of high-quality light, medium and heavy-duty trucks under the Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF nameplates.
