The office at the county landfill was trashed when someone broke into the facility to steal a pickup truck and several pieces of office equipment.
According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff’s Of- fice, the burglary was discovered when Deputy Mike Salemi happened upon the stolen truck while on patrol. The 25-yearold pickup’s motor and transmission had been removed.
Burke County roads superintendent Jesse Burke confirmed that the truck had been stolen from the county’s solid waste facility, where the front gate had been torn down and the door to the office building had been ripped from the frame.
A computer, weight scale, digital computer screen and television were also taken from the office.
